London Luton Airport is a major success story. Owned by Luton Council, it is the UK’s fifth largest and fastest growing major airport and is forecast to reach its existing permitted capacity of 18 million passengers per year by 2020.
In order to future-proof the airport and continue to deliver commercial advantage for the council this role will provide strategic leadership and through the team drive a £2.7bn programme of major infrastructure and development projects creating extensive and sustainable social and economic benefits for Luton itself, as well as the wider region and the UK, helping us to eradicate poverty in our community .
If you have experience of working across the private and public sectors on large commercial frameworks and a track record of successfully leading the strategic delivery of complex, high-profile, high-value programmes on time and within budget coupled with relentless drive and outstanding stakeholder and influencing management skills, we’d be really interested to hear from you. Overall strategic leadership for the delivery of London Luton Airport’s development programme represents a massive opportunity for the right candidate. You will also have a real passion of making a difference for others and therefore, won’t just see this as a job. This role reports directly to the CEO of Luton Borough Council (who is also CEO of LLAL) and is part of the Senior Management Team.

The Corporate Director will bring their experience of working across the private and public sectors on large commercial frameworks and a track record of successfully leading the strategic delivery of complex, high-profile, high-value programmes on time and within budget. They will use their outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills to advise and guide London Luton Airport Ltd’s Board of Directors on future developments to ensure that Luton Council’s interests as shareholder are met whilst supporting a public sector ethos.

New Century Park
New Century Park provides the location for an ambitious, well-designed, high-quality, high-yield mixed-use development, incorporating business, commercial and light industrial units in a rural fringe setting, on the doorstep of the UK’s fifth largest airport, and within easy reach of excellent transport links to both London and the North. Proposals include the construction of a new access road.
Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART)
LLAL has started work building a new Direct Air-Rail Transit system (Luton DART) to service London Luton Airport. The DART is being developed to encourage passengers to travel to and from the airport via a more sustainable and efficient means of transport. The DART will be a fully automated and driverless system, approximately 2.1km in length, and will transport passengers between Luton Airport Parkway station and the terminal. Planning permission has been received from Luton Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council. The DART system is scheduled to become operational by 2021.
LLAL has planning permission for 2.5 acres of commercial development off Kimpton Road, next to Luton Airport Parkway station and the proposed Luton Direct Air Rail Transit (Luton DART) scheme.
London Luton Airport Enterprise Zone
London Luton Airport is one of only 24 areas across England to have secured Enterprise Zone status. This significant development opportunity comprises three sites surrounding or connected to London Luton Airport. The two-hour drive catchment area of the site is 23 million people, exceeding that of London Heathrow.
