Luton’s Children and Families are at the heart of everything we do. The Quality Assurance and Safeguarding Service are recruiting to a new essential post, Care Proceedings and Improvement Case Manager. This new and exciting role will allow you to bring all of you skills and knowledge, to drive best practice in social work in Luton. You will join a team which our recent ILAC (Inspection of Local Authority Children’s Services) inspection highlighted had improved in reach and effectiveness. The role is critical in ensuring that court case compliance issues, quality of practice and impact are being met by the workforce when supporting families who are currently in the pre proceedings and care proceedings arena.
You will be an experienced senior social worker with the requisite legal knowledge or a legal practitioner (preferably with a legal qualification), ready to step up to the next level in your career, or you are an experienced leader that is looking to round up your knowledge and expertise. You will have strong communications skills, you’ll be able to build effective relationships with staff, in both Children’s Social Care, Legal Services and professionals from other agencies – CAFCASS and Court and other professionals and able to negotiate resources as required.
You should have in-depth knowledge of the law relating to family law and childcare proceedings, including all relevant procedures and guidance, and be up-to-date with the Public Law Outline procedures, Family Justice Review reports and guidance. You should have knowledge of appropriate performance indicators and quality standards and be able to assist in managing, motivating and developing a team that achieve high levels of performance.
We do ask that you have Social Work or Law qualification and should be registered by Social Work England or the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. Therefore, it is essential in making your application you disclose whether you have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and, if so, for which offences. This post will be exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) (Amendments) Order 1986.
Therefore, applicants are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are ‘spent’ under the provision of the Act, and, in the event of the employment being taken up; any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority. The fact that a pending charge, conviction, bind-over or caution has been recorded against you will not necessarily debar you from consideration for this appointment.
