You will be ensuring the council are compliant with their statutory duty to safeguard children in the Luton area and promote organisational cultures which safeguard the children who use them. You will also have the opportunity to deputise for the LADO when required.
You’ll be overseeing and managing matters arising from an allegation that a person in a position of trust has harmed or is a risk to children. You will need to be able to support, advise, guide and challenge. This role also includes contributing to the delivery of training to children’s organisations to promote safer working practices and organisational cultures which protect children.
We are looking for someone who has experience at a decision-making level in an organisation which provides services for children including managing risk associated with the welfare of children. You’ll need experience of chairing multi-disciplinary meetings and leading on multi-agency work.
Our ideal candidate will need to be able to understand and interpret complex and sensitive legislation to develop it into policy and practice. You must be able to work with senior staff from all LSCB partner organisations where you will be working to persuade, motivate and gain commitment from them.
We need a strong communicator who is organised and able to make sound professional judgments and able to write clear and concise reports.
You will have the opportunity to develop on your already existing knowledge of the multi-agency context of the safeguarding children agenda, relevant legislation, guidance and current developments.
We do ask that you have qualified social worker status or equivalent relevant experience.
This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. Therefore, it is essential in making your application you disclose whether you have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and, if so, for which offences. This post will be exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) (Amendments) Order 1986. Therefore, applicants are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are ‘spent’ under the provision of the Act, and, in the event of the employment being taken up; any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority. The fact that a pending charge, conviction, bind-over or caution has been recorded against you will not necessarily debar you from consideration for this appointment.
