About the job
Reserve Poll Clerk for Thursday 6 May – 6.00 am until 10.30 pm - £163.19
We would like to seek expressions of interest about being a ‘reserve’ poll clerk.
Poll Clerks ultimately assist the Presiding Officer with the conduct of the ballot inside the polling stations on Election Day, so you’ll need to be happy taking instructions from the Presiding officer and the (Acting) Returning Officer.
Your first job of the day will be assisting with the layout of the polling station and preparing for the opening of the poll. From then on in, you’ll be helping to make sure the poll station is run efficiently and correctly – referring any problems and concerns to the Presiding Officer.
You’re the face of the ballot on your polling station, so quality customer service skills will come naturally to you. Your high attention to detail enables you to issue ballot papers to voters, checking that electors are eligible to vote in the elections (and they’re at the right polling station!).
Impartiality is also a key skill needed for this role, as you’ll be able to remain politically neutral whilst adhering to high levels of secrecy - it’s also important you help the voters to vote in secret too.
A few things to note:
This role requires training for which a £10 payment will be made.
We will be taking special measures to ensure that our polling stations are Covid-secure so that you can work safely.
You’ll need to be able to undertake the manual lifting duties of the task, with reasonable adjustments if required – please let us know how we can help.
If you work for Luton Council already, you must have your line managers permission before applying (evidence of this permission will be requested later on in the process).
Once you have submitted your application, please email your right to work document(s), such as your passport, along with your completed payroll details form (available to download below) to: email@example.com
