What You’ll be doing

Luton Borough Council is looking for an organised and detail-focused Admissions, Planning and Elective Home Education Administrator to provide high-quality administrative support across the service.

A key part of the role will be supporting the Council’s oversight of Elective Home Education, including managing enquiries from parents, maintaining accurate records and databases, coordinating information for risk assessments, and working closely with EHE Officers and colleagues across the Council. The postholder will also compile statistical and management information, support Freedom of Information requests and ensure information for parents remains up to date and in line with current guidance and legislation.

The role will also provide support to the Admissions and Appeals Team, particularly during busy periods, assisting parents and schools, processing applications and providing general administrative support.

The postholder will also arrange and minute meetings, support the EHE Coordinator and contribute to pupil projections through accurate data and reporting.

What we’re looking for

You will have experience of administrative processes and procedures, with good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Word, spreadsheets and databases. You will be organised and methodical, with the ability to manage busy periods, prioritise competing demands and work accurately within established policies and procedures.

You will have strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to draft straightforward correspondence, respond to enquiries, take accurate minutes and communicate politely and tactfully with a wide range of people, including those who may be frustrated or upset.

You will be a supportive team member who can work collaboratively while using your own initiative. An understanding of Elective Home Education, school admissions or school place planning would be advantageous, alongside a commitment to equality and non-discriminatory practice.

A Level 2 Business Administration qualification or equivalent experience is required. The role may occasionally require evening work, up to twice a year.
